MUSICAL MINDSET
Ganathipan has always believed in embracing commonalities in different genres and cultures of music. The rawness of those acoustic, quasi-natural timbres is something his sound embraces to form his own voice. Subcontinent influences, particularly from his parents' native Sri Lanka, are prevalent within the framework of his classical, jazz and contemporary musical roots. The evolvement of incorporating Asian and African interpretations is testament of the pursuit of a truly multicultural sound.
THE COLLECTION
In the battle to create a world-musical unity, Ganathipan has his weapons of choice. Carnatic influences can be seen in the use of the Veena (far left), Indian Mandolin (far right) and Mridangam (closest). The Tin Whistle, Trumpet and Cajon certainly adds further to the eclectic nature to the music. However, with Ganathipan's roots held in Western classical and contemporary, Piano, Bass and Guitar hold these different melodic and rhythmic frameworks together.
Bul-bul Tharang- Rare Folk Instrument
Ganathipan found a unique rawness from this instrument that he cultivated in his music. He bought this instrument in Delhi in 2010 and after some notable jam sessions with the instrument, Ecstasy was born.
